Aloha. My name is Garrett Hayashi and I am a general dentist practicing on the island of O'ahu in the state of Hawaii. I have been in practice for four and a half years.
After graduation from dental school, I bought a dental practice from a dentist who had been in practice for almost 50 years. He was no longer aggressively marketing his practice thus his practice was going downhill. I decided to purchase it because it seemed like a challenge to rebuild this dwindling practice and make it profitable again.
It was very rough at the beginning having no business at all. The old-timers whom I consulted with always had the same advice: "Just put your time in and eventually it will grow." So I increased my availability to the public by staying open longer, including Saturdays. It worked for a little while. Production and collections grew some but I was getting burned out. I was only 28 years old and my body was giving out. My recent marriage and home life were being pushed aside because of the responsibility I felt as the breadwinner in the family to keep our financial dreams alive, but at the same time, my youth was begging me to have some fun which I didn't have time for.
I wasn't happy, my life didn't seem full. I got into dentistry to help people. As an Eagle Scout, my first duty was to assist others by doing a good deed every day, but I was losing focus on my life and after many sleepless nights I was beginning to dislike going to work because that is what it had become - work. No longer was I a provider of oral health care.
One day I received a brochure in the mail outlining a practice management company. I called the number printed on the flyer and spoke to a consultant who then sent me a video. I watched the video at home and then contacted the consultant a week later. I decided to toss out the advice of the old timers and get some real executive training.
After completing Sterling's executive training program, I realized my management skills were poor and that I needed help as an executive, not as a dentist. Using the ideas taught to me at Sterling's facility in beautiful Glendale, CA, I was able to hire and surround myself with terrific, upbeat staff. They keep my schedule full and keep me smiling.
Now I'm surfing twice a week and playing basketball and softball once a week. I'm spending great quality time with my wife and 20-month old son and loving life again.
If it's education that you need to see your future clearly, don't let pride cloud your vision. I cannot imagine the income I lost in the past two years prior to Sterling's assistance, income I can't retrieve, but for me, that's only two years worth. How long can you be without Sterling? Call them now. Don't wait. Every minute you go without these executive skills is money lost and time away from the life you want to lead.
